Welcome

I am an elder in the Global Methodist Church, currently serving as pastor of Holston View Methodist Church in Weber City, Va. Before entering professional ministry, I  worked in journalism and public relations.

Feel free to contact me via e-mail. I am a resident of Kingsport, Tenn. Most people call me Chuck.

Fun with Apologetics

I will be using this personal blog site to communicate with people interested in apologetics, the skill set that allows us to explain our beliefs as Christians. Our first gathering is 6 p.m. this Sunday, July 12, at Holston View Methodist Church. We are going to meet in the fellowship hall.

This Sunday, we will do something very basic. We will make sure all of our core Christian beliefs are aligned. It’s possible some of us have questions or doubts about certain matters Christians have taken for granted since the earliest days of the church. We may quickly find we are on the same page, or we may find we need some discussion time around some of these topics.

Either result is fine. I want this to be a low-pressure, discussion-oriented environment. If you have time, participants may want to review the Global Methodist Church’s catechism book. I also have a few printed copies left. You also could look at the Doctrinal Foundations section of the Global Methodist Church’s Book of Doctrines and Discipline.

Longer-term, we are going to consider some books we may want to read over time as part of this ongoing class. At a minimum, I will draw from some concepts in these books. The book links go to Amazon, but most of these can be acquired elsewhere.

C.S. Lewis’ “Mere Christianity.”

Lee Strobel’s “The Case for Christ.”

Bollore and Bonnassie’s “God, the Science, the Evidence.” This one is a dense read, but if you’re an avid reader, and you don’t mind wading through some science talk, you will enjoy it.

Leslie Weatherhead’s “Will of God.”

I look forward to beginning our time together!
