Other Expertise

I’ve gained proficiency in some other areas, too:

I hold a seventh-degree black belt in Isshinryu karate, which I began to practice at the age of 15. I earned my first degree under Master Harold Long in 1988. Master Long was one of the few people to study Isshinryu under the system founder, Tatsuo Shimabuku, in Okinawa, and he was in the first group of people to bring Isshinryu to the United States.

I enjoy the shooting sports, and I serve as a National Rifle Association-certified range safety officer. I’ve also had several advanced handgun shooting courses.

I am happy to write about these subjects, and I also am glad to offer private self-defense courses. I have written for Dojo Magazine and Guns.com.
